Hair Extensions in Dublin

Most people don’t come into the salon knowing whether they need a weave, tapes, bonds or micro-links.

They usually know something simpler: they want more length, fuller ends, better volume or hair that sits the way they’ve pictured it.

That’s where we start.

At Lush Virgin Hair in Dublin, we offer a range of professional hair extension methods and help you work out which one makes sense for your own hair and the look you’re trying to achieve.

Choosing Hair Extensions That Actually Suit Your Hair

Hair extensions can be used for a big transformation, but they don’t have to be.

Some clients want long, full hair. Others come in asking for length and realise the real issue is that their own hair looks thin through the ends. A relatively small amount of added density can sometimes give them the change they were looking for.

The method matters too. Hair density, texture and styling habits all affect how an extension application will sit and how practical it will be once you’re back at home doing your own hair.

What we look at before recommending a method

Before suggesting an extension option, we look at things such as:

  • your natural hair density
  • your current hair length
  • texture
  • areas where the hair feels finer or less full
  • how much volume you want
  • how much length you want to add
  • your usual parting
  • whether you regularly wear ponytails or upstyles
  • how you normally style your hair
  • how much maintenance you’re comfortable with

That gives us a much better starting point than choosing an extension method because you saw the name online.

Hair Extension Methods Available at Lush Virgin Hair

There’s more than one way to add hair, and each application has a slightly different feel.

Weft Hair Extensions

Wefts are commonly used when a client wants to build noticeable fullness and length.

The extension hair is fitted in rows rather than attached strand by strand. At Lush Virgin Hair, we work with weft-based applications including Invisible Weave, LA Weave, Volume Weft and braidless options.

The type and placement of the weft will be chosen with your own hair in mind.

Micro-Links and I-Tips

Micro-links and I-tips are an individual application.

Small sections of extension hair are attached using discreet beads, so the added hair is distributed throughout the natural hair rather than sitting in a continuous row.

One of the main reasons clients consider this type of application is the movement you can get from individually placed strands.

Micro Bond Extensions

Micro bonds are also placed individually.

Rather than concentrating extension hair in rows, small bonds are distributed through the hair to build length or density where it’s needed.

It can create a discreet finish, but the condition and density of your own hair still need to be looked at before deciding whether it’s the right option.

Tape-In Hair Extensions

Tape-ins use flatter sections of extension hair fitted close to the natural hair.

They distribute added hair across slim panels and can be used to build fullness as well as length.

How much hair is needed varies quite a bit. Someone looking to thicken their ends will need a very different application from someone planning a much fuller change.

Sew-In Weaves

Sew-ins are often considered when the goal is fuller coverage or a more significant transformation.

The extension hair is sewn into the chosen foundation, and the finished style can be adapted in different ways. That may include using some of the natural hair as leave-out, incorporating a closure or creating a fuller protective finish.

Hair Extension Methods Compared

Extension method Often considered for How it is applied Useful to know
Weft extensions Length and noticeable fullness Hair is fitted in rows Placement and weft type will vary according to the client’s natural hair
Micro-links / I-tips Flexible, individual placement Small sections are attached using discreet beads Strand-by-strand placement can give the hair natural movement
Micro bonds Distributed length or density Small individual bonds are placed throughout the hair The client’s natural hair needs to be assessed before choosing this method
Tape-ins Fullness with a flatter application Slim extension sections sit close to the natural hair The amount of hair used will vary according to density and the finished look
Sew-in weave Fuller coverage or a larger transformation Extension hair is sewn into the chosen foundation The finish can be adapted around leave-out, closures or fuller protective styles

Extensions for Curly and Textured Hair

Yes, extensions can be matched to curly and textured hair.

Colour tends to get most of the attention when people think about blending extensions, but texture and weight are just as important. If the movement of the extension hair is noticeably different from your own, the blend can look obvious even when the colour is spot on.

Lush Virgin Hair works with straight, wavy, curly, kinky straight, yaki and other textured hair options.

If curls and texture are your main focus, have a look at our Lush Curls service, where we go into that in much more detail.

Do You Want Length, Volume or Both?

Extensions don’t automatically mean dramatically longer hair.

Can extensions be used just for volume?

Yes. Extensions can be used to fill out finer ends or add density without substantially changing your overall length.

This comes up quite often in consultation. Someone may initially say they want longer hair, but when we look at the shape they’re trying to create, what they really want is more fullness around the mid-lengths and ends.

On the other hand, if you do want a bigger change in length, the amount and distribution of extension hair becomes more important so the finished result looks balanced.

What Happens at a Hair Extension Consultation?

A hair extension consultation is where we work out the practical side of the look you have in mind.

Typically, we’ll go through:

1. Your natural hair
We look at your current length, density and texture, including any areas that feel particularly fine.

2. The finished look you want
We talk about length, volume and how noticeable or subtle you want the change to be.

3. Suitable extension methods
Once we’ve seen your hair, we can narrow down the applications worth considering.

4. Colour and texture matching
We look beyond colour alone and consider how the extension hair will sit alongside your natural texture.

5. Styling and maintenance
We’ll ask how you normally wear your hair and explain the upkeep involved with the relevant method.

Bring inspiration photos if you have them.

They’re often more useful than trying to explain whether you mean “a bit longer”, “around bra-strap length” or a much more dramatic change.

If you wear your hair in a high ponytail most days, say that too. Placement matters more than people sometimes realise.

Colour, Texture and Blend Matter More Than People Think

A natural-looking blend isn’t just about finding a similar shade.

The weight of the extension hair has to make sense beside your own. So does the texture. The distribution matters too, particularly when adding density to finer areas or trying to avoid a heavy-looking finish through the ends.

This is one of the reasons we prefer to see the hair before settling on an application.

You can look at two people asking for the same finished length and still recommend a completely different amount or method for each of them.

Living With Hair Extensions

Extensions need to work outside the salon as well as they do on the day they’re fitted.

Can I wear my hair in a ponytail with extensions?

Often, yes. The extension method and placement will affect how freely you can wear the hair up.

If ponytails, buns or upstyles are part of your normal routine, mention them before the application is planned.

What about washing and styling?

Your home routine matters.

Brushing, washing, drying and heat styling all need to be approached properly, and different extension methods have their own maintenance requirements.

We’ll give you advice for the application you choose rather than handing you generic instructions.

Hair Extensions Dublin FAQs

How much do hair extensions cost in Dublin?

The cost varies according to the application, the amount of hair required, the chosen length and the overall service. We don’t want to invent a one-size-fits-all figure where the final recommendation depends on the individual application.

Do I need a consultation before getting extensions?

Yes, we recommend a consultation before choosing your extension method. It gives us a chance to see your natural hair, understand what you want to change and discuss suitable options.

Which extensions are suitable for fine hair?

There isn’t one method that is automatically right for every person with fine hair. Hair density, strength, length and the amount of volume being added all need to be considered first.

Can extensions be matched to curly or textured hair?

Yes. We work with a range of straight, wavy, curly and textured hair options, including kinky straight and yaki textures.

Can I wear my hair up with extensions?

In many cases, yes. If ponytails and upstyles are important to you, tell us during the consultation because the extension method and placement can affect styling flexibility.

Can I add extensions just for volume?

Yes. Extensions can be used to fill out finer areas or add density through the lengths and ends without creating a dramatic change in length.

How often do hair extensions need maintenance?

That varies by application. We’ll explain the maintenance requirements for the method being considered rather than giving you a schedule that may not apply to your hair.
